Phonological awareness as a continuum

Phonological awareness can be placed on a developmental continuum, beginning with basic listening skills and progression through an ability to identify and create rhyme and alliteration, distinguish words within sentences, to syllables within words and on-set and rime within words, until a child is able to manipulate phonemes within words in a variety of ways.
